Damn. Even if Erdogan is acting like a bitch Turkey is an important partner.

With so many high ranking Turkish officers being schooled and trained in the US and Germany, one can only wonder if NATO isn’t trying to get rid of a president who made a mockery out of democracy, and has the potential to drag the alliance into messy situations. Not that I have a problem with that.

True but still it couldn’t of happened to a nicer guy.

One also has to wonder if Russia is behind the scenes.

I don’t think high ranking Turkish officers are huge fans of Putin’s Russia.

Good point that said Turkey was due a coup since it’s been quite a while since the last one.

Doubt it. Putin loves evil nut jobs as heads of states. It’s easier to deal with your kind.

A destabilized nation is very vulnerable though.

Very true and of all the countries that need to be stable at the moment, Turkey would be high on the list.

They are literally the most ‘Western’ country in the Middle Eastern region and the gateway to Asia. I just hope everyone involved acts in the will of Kemal Atatürk.

They’re not, but Putin’s not a huge fan of high ranking Turkish diplomats, either.

If we go on precedent, the Turkish Military seems to be more of a stabilizing force. I would bet more so than Erdoan is currently.

Except that Deutsche Welle is reporting speculation by the Turkish media that the generals behind the coup-not-coup are “tied to loyalists of exiled Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, who the government has accused of forming a “parallel state” and terrorist group. Gulen is an ally-turned-foe of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan currently living the United States.”

Problem is that most Turkish media are at least state-influenced, so I’m not sure how much of that is to be believed. Though to be honest, I’m not entirely sure which incentive they have to misrepresent the uprising’s origin either.

Too bad that the goatfu.., sorry I mean Erdogan wasn’t overthrown. Fuck him. Funny how this dude is popular with the majority of Turks living here in Germany.
